Ethiopian Classical Music

ethiopian classical music
Why do people who are fixated on “international” stuff tend to be so liberal?

I work around such people, the ones who speak four or five languages, get their news from Corriere della Sera, Le Monde, El País and O Globo, have friends from all the different continents, drink maté, eat Ethiopian food, watch PBS, listen to Argentine Tango, Indian Sitar and Persian Classical Music, have screensavers with some image of a foreign land they have visited….all of these people that I meet tend to have liberal points of view. Why is this?

Maybe because conservatives are jingoistic and blissfully ignorant, think they’re and the stuff they’re familiar with is the best and don’t see a point in understanding anything different because they feel all they need to know is “America’s #1″

Now to bash those liberals you speak of. I identify myself as liberal, too, I love all Kinds Of Music and the international, but there’s a lot of PHONIES out there. A lot of these people with fancy music and food are just out to prove they’re smarter and bigger-minded than everyone else, so don’t be fooled by people who put on a lot of airs.

 Lifelines

Lifelines

$15.99

LifelinesThis is a book of epigrammatic and short inspirational pieces to help readers see truths that they can apply to their lives immediately, perhaps giving them insights to deal with crises in family or work places, or perhaps to encourage them to be more compassionate Christians to anyone they encounter in their lives. These words come from a lifetime of collecting words and sayings from a myriad of people that have encouraged and inspired. So often books of quotes contain items that have been included simply because they were a clever turn of phrase. In Lifelines, however, each entry had to be uplifting as well as insightful to pass muster. They are meant to be slowly sipped and pondered, as if with a cup of herb tea.Walter Newport is a retired professor of language and culture who has spent nearly thirty years in four widely diverse areas of the world – in the USA, Cuba, Spain, and Japan. Dr. Newport was the first non-Japanese professor ever hired by Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan, after having been a founding member of an international center in Toyama Prefecture. He has also been an active Christian in parts of the world in which Christians are a minority, supporting an orphanage in the Philippines, and has helped refugees from the recent Ethiopian-Eritrean war in Africa. He enjoys opera and classical music, theology, mountain hiking, and weight lifting, belongs to the International Society of Poets, and has received numerous awards for his poetry. He now lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Poems Of Petition, Praise, Perception, People, & Playfulness

Poems Of Petition, Praise, Perception, People, & Playfulness

$14.99

PoemsThe poems in this volume are quite varied in theme and purpose. Readers can find solace or healing, encouragement, joy in The Lord, laughter, common feelings about loved ones, or perhaps special insights into Christian thinking that might serve to bring someone into or back into a Biblical worldview. Many who have begun to doubt or to encounter criticism of Christianity in today’s world they cannot defend against, and perhaps do not have the patience to read apologetic discourses, may find that poetry can speak to their hearts when pure logic does not in an age of relativism, naturalism, secular humanism, post-modernism, and terrorism.Taken as a whole, one gets the sense that God’s Love, Sovereignty, Majesty, Truth and Grace are visible in His Creation, and that humankind need to embrace Him, accept Christ, and dedicate ourselves to obeying, glorifying, and serving Him as long as we live.Walter Newport is a retired professor of language and culture who has spent nearly thirty years in four widely diverse areas of the world – in the USA, Cuba, Spain, and Japan. Smile linesIn this book, readers will gain insights into life’s problems that can be translated into their daily lives. As the companion book to “Lifelines,” this book is also meant to be enlightening and inspirational, but with a focus on humor, and as with Lifelines, it is the result of a lifetime of collecting words worth keeping by many, many people. It is clear that we can laugh and smile without being lewd or demeaning. Clever word play, yes, but never hurtful, denigrating, or bigoted. Each entry in Smile Lines is mirth that can be enjoyed without leaving an aftertaste of godlessness.Walter Newport is a retired professor of language and culture who has spent nearly thirty years in four widely diverse areas of the world – in the USA, Cuba, Spain, and Japan.
